My 4 yr. old son was having a hard time settling down this evening. Know what we do in our house? We do Down Dog pose right in bed (because we all know that we would totally lose them if we allow them to climb out of bed).

T and I held Down Dog while we sang the ABCs…sometimes it’s Twinkle, Twinkle…then he went into child’s pose for a quick back massage. 2 minutes later he was out!!

Why does this work?
Downward Facing Dog first allows them to have firm, stable pressure on all four limbs at the same time, helping them to feel safe and grounded—bringing them back down to earth. Plus, as an inversion, it slows the heart rate, allows their lungs to expand in deep breaths, and the blood flowing to their brain calms their mind.

Give it a try, and let me know how it goes.

Good night, sleep tight!
